List three books that have had an impact on you. Why?
I’ve been an avid reader since I first taught myself to read at age six. So many yellowed pages and worn covers have impacted my life and ignited creativity within me. Picking only three is difficult, but I think I know which ones to choose.
I was obsessed with the Goosebumps books series as a child; mainly Night of The Living Dummy. That specific book by R.L. Stine ignited my love for the horror genre for many years to come.
I read The Exorcist by William Blatty my senior year of high school. If you’re noticing a theme here, you can tell I’ve always enjoyed the macabre. I hadn’t seen the classic 1973 film of the same name yet, which made the book even more chilling. It entered me into a new phase of my horror obsession regarding the paranormal.
And lastly, A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas was a book recommended to me by a friend when I was nineteen. It relit the passion I’d lost for creative writing, and entered me into a new era of inspiration. It’s almost surprising to me that it’s not horror themed like the other two I mentioned, yet all three books have inspired me as a writer through the decades.
